Scope and Contents

An excerpt from the newspaper article reads as follows:

Some of My Best Friends Are, an original musical comedy, will be presented Friday, Saturday, and Sunday by the fledgling Hallie Q. Brown Little Theater company. The play was written by a young composer, Bob Williams, who is also a guidance counselor for the Minneapolis public school system. [Mary Ann Grossmann] met Williams and the enthusiatic little theater group last week when they gathered for a meeting and rehearsal in the Hallie Q. Brown community center auditorium. Members of the group were as diversified as is possible.

Some were white and some are Negro. They are all ages, from 8-year-old Angela Williams, Bob's daughter, to Henry Thomas, executive director at Hallie Q. Brown. Some are students, some retired, others social workers and housewives.

[They musical] centers around a group of freedom workers who arrive in Bigotsville to establish a freedom school. Their attempt to register 300 prospective voters of Needmore (...need more houses, need more schools, need more jobs...) is met with resistance by Gov. Ropelaw. The plot thickens as the young people and Needmore residents match wits with the governor.
